Methyl m-hydroxybenzoate

Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate [99-76-3] M 152.2, m 127.5 , pK j( -9.3. Fractionally crystd from its melt, recrystd from benzene, then from benzene/MeOH and dried over CaCl2 in a vacuum desiccator. [Pg.293]

Materials. Phthalic anhydride (PA), adipic acid (AA), neopentyl glycol (NPG), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA), salycilic acid, m-hydroxybenzoic acid (MHBA), xylene, and methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) were purchased from Aldrich. p-Toluenesulfonic acid (p-TSA) was purchased from Matheson. "Aromatic 150" solvent and "Resimene 7A6", a hexakis(methyloxymethyl)melamine (HMMM) resin were supplied by Exxon and Monsanto, respectively. "Bonderite 1000" pretreated cold-rolled steel panels 3"x9"x2AGA were purchased from Parker. [Pg.336]

The activity of the ethanolic extract of both the pods and the seeds of M. oleifera is equivalent at the dose of 30 mg/kg. The ethyl acetate phase of the ethanolic extract of pods has more hypotensive potency at the same dose. The bioassay-directed fractionation ethyl acetate phase of the ethanohc extract of pods led to the isolation of thiocaibamate and isothiocyanate glycosides which are also the hypotensive compounds observed in M. oleifera leaves. Two new compounds, 0-[2 -hydroxy-3 -(2 heptei5rloxy)]-propyl undecanoate and O-ethyl-4-[(a-Z-rhamnosyloxy)-benzyl] carbamate along with methyl p-hydroxybenzoate and p-sitosterol are also isolated from the pods. The latter two compounds and /7-hydroxybenzaldehyde shows promising hypotensive activity (89). [Pg.451]

It should be mentioned that several more drastic simplifications of cocaine appeared on the scene even earlier. The only survivor is ethyl p-aminobenzoate (benzocaine, Table 13-6, No. 5). The others of interest were methyl p-amino-m-hydroxybenzoate (ortho-form), which, like benzocaine, was nontoxic, highly insoluble, and therefore not suitable for parenteral administration. Orthoform has no activity on intact skin, but it was useful as a powder on painful wounds. It was superseded commercially by the position isomer p-hydroxy-m-aminobenzoate methyl ester for reasons of cost since large-scale production of orthoform (as the pure, correct isomer) presented difficulties at the time. It should be pointed out that water-soluble hydrochlorides of the aminobenzoates can be prepared however, their solutions are much too acidic to inject. [Pg.645]
