Metals hexa valent

Atomic Weight.—For reasons similar to those applying in the case of chromium (p. 16), the atomic %veight of molybdenum is three times the equivalent of the metal in the molybdic salts, or six times that in the molybdates. Molybdenum may be di-, tri-, or hexa-valent. [Pg.117]

Most, if not all, fluorescent pigments do not contain any of the Coalition of North Eastern Governors (CONEG) heavy metals (cadmium, lead, mercury, and hexa-valent chromium). In fact, to the authofs knowledge, no heavy metals are used in the manufacture of any fluorescent colorants. [Pg.37]

The formation of multiple metal-oxo bonds by penta or hexa valent transition metals (d°) is not surprising but the more recent discovery that scandium, yttrium, and the tervalent lanthanides form oxo-isopropoxides rather than triisopropoxides was unexpected. Considerable efforts have been devoted to ensuring that the formation of these pentanuclear oxo-alkoxides [M5(/r5-0)(/r,3-0Pr )4(/r-0Pr )4(0Pr )5] was not due to hydrolysis, and there is evidence that elimination of ether is involved. An alternative mode of decomposition would be alkene elimination with concomitant formation of alcohol (Eq. 5.5). [Pg.385]

The difference in catalytic activity between the La- and the Ba-based hexa-aluminates results from the following reasons the first difference is the valence of cation in the mirror pleuie between tri-valent lanthanum ion and di-valent barium ion. The second is the crystal structure between magnetoplumbite and P-alumina, which are different in the coordination of ions and concentration of Frenkel-type defect in mirror plane. The redox cycle of transition metal in hexa-aluminate lattice, which closely related with catalytic activity, is affected sensitively with these two factors. [Pg.424]

Lower valent tungsten halides are a new class of deoxygenation agents, e.g. for the conversion of carbonyl or epoxy compounds into olefins . A new reagent, generated in situ from iron pentacarbonyl and a small amount of base in moist solvents, selectively and efficiently hydrogenates the ethylenic portion of a,/ -unsaturated carbonyl compounds, such as ketones or lactones, under mild conditions. Aliphatic tert. amides can be easily reduced to alcohols by alkali metals in hexa-methylphosphoramide and a protic cosolvent such as tert-butanol. Aldehydes can be obtained from acids by catalytic reduction of intermediate carboxylic alkoxyformic anhydrides . Sec. nitro compds. are converted into ketones by the joint action of a nitrite ester and NaNOg under mild, non-acidic conditions . [Pg.9]
