Metal design

Typical metal design temperatures for these finned-tube constructions are 399°C (750°F) embedded, 288°C (550°F) integral, 232°C (450°F) overlapped footed, and 177°C (350°F) footed. [Pg.1079]

It is that the plastic and the process selected profoundly affect the quality and appearance of the product. For this reason, it is usually unwise to create a design first, and then decide on material and process at least consider all three factors from the start. This seems obvious and logical, but it is frequently ignored in practice, especially when converting a metal design to a plastic material. [Pg.563]

The trend in CVD metallization is toward greater use of copper, and the refractory metals and their silicides in multilayered metallization designs, typically consisting of metal-silicide contacts, refractory-metal barriers, and copper or an aluminum alloy as the principal interconnect metal. Other metals deposited by CVD such as chromium, molybdenum, platinum, rhodium, and ruthenium are also actively considered for use as conductors. [Pg.372]

Rupture discs are specially designed to rupture at a specified relief set pressure. They usually consist of a calibrated sheet of metal designed to rupture at a well-specified pressure. They are used alone, in series, or in parallel to spring-loaded relief devices. They can be made from a variety of materials, including exotic corrosion-resistant materials. [Pg.362]

RocTec stabilization is a process to transform incinerator ash and other materials into small briquettes, which are then sintered to increase their strength, make them leach resistant, and reduce their volume. A ceramic stabilization process, it is applicable for metal oxide matrices containing metals designated as toxic under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act... [Pg.995]

Chaff is an electromagnetic wave reflector, consisting of a thin narrow piece of metal, designed to be released into die atmosphere (either by dropping from a plane or shot into the air in projectiles) to act as a countermeasure against enemy radar. A grouping of several pieces is called chaff set. A similar device, but longer, is called rope. A small... [Pg.540]

Standard Teflon stopcocks cannot be used for any vacuum work. A completely different design from those discussed thus far is required for a Teflon vacuum stopcock. This design is shown in Fig. 3.22 and is called a rotary Teflon valve. It is called a valve instead of a stopcock because its operation and design is similar to those of a metal designed valve. [Pg.189]

Very similar results were also obtained by Farrauto et al. [51] from a study of the high-temperature catalytic chemistry of supported Pd for the combustion of methane. Palladium oxide supported on alumina decomposes in two distinct steps in air at atmospheric pressure. The first step occurs between 750 and 800X and is believed to be a decomposition of Pd-O species dispersed on bulk Pd metal, designated (PdO /Pd). The second decomposition occurs between 800 and 850" C, and it behaves like crystalline palladium oxide (PdO). To form the oxide once again, metallic Pd has to be cooled down to 650°C, thus causing a hysteresis gap of 150°C. Above 500°C, catalytic methane oxidation can occur only as long as the palladium oxide phase is still present. Above 650 C, metallic Pd cannot chemisorb oxygen, and hence it is catalytically inactive toward methane oxidation. [Pg.165]

Headers are welded on the core block to direct the fluids into the appropriate passages. The all-metal design allows very high operating conditions for both temperature and pressure. The diffusion bonding provides a near-homogeneous material for fluids that are corrosive or require high purity. [Pg.1254]

Under appropriate conditions, metal design involves plasticity, creep, and geometric nonlinearity. These topics are treated in standard texts and have been put into computer software. However, such complexities are necessarily modeled in a simple technical format. [Pg.772]

A variety of anaerobic chambers may be utilized for handling oxygen sensitive biochenucal materials. A Coy Industries (Ann Arbor, MI) anaerobic chamber has been employed in the author s laboratory, but glass and metal designs favored by synthetic chemists can also be used. An important feature for crystal screening is the installation of a viewing port for a stereomicroscope. [Pg.427]
