Mechanical assemblies with other metals or graphite are possible, if the risk of galvanic corrosion is assessed properly and, if necessary, bypassed (see Section B.3.7). 

The contact with nonmetallic materials does not lead to a risk of galvanic corrosion. Porous materials may favour the corrosion of aluminium (see Chapters G.3 and G.4). 

In certain cases, mechanical stresses may lead to stress corrosion (see Section B.2.5).

The new instrument introduced for inspection of multi-layer structures from polymeric and composite metals and materials in air-space industry and this is acoustic flaw detector AD-64M. The principle of its operation based on impedance and free vibration methods with further spectral processing of the obtained signal.

Powder metallurgy is concerned with production and processing of powdery forms of metals and materials and of solid industrial products therefrom. 

Engineering metallurgy mainly deals with the processing of metals and materials in the molten condition. Foundry, metal joining and other related areas appear to come under its coverage. 

Finally, it may be added that it is the terrestrial resources which have served and will continue to serve as practically the sole suppliers of metals and materials. Among the other resources only the manganese nodules extracted from the ocean bed have drawn serious attention the world over for exploring economic methods of processing.
