Reports of the UKAEA are abstracted by NSA, Chemical Abstracts, Analytical Abstracts, Metallurgical Abstracts and the Journal of Applied Chemistry. 

Metallurgy. Some years ago Metals and Alloys was abstracting from nearly 400 publications, although Chemical Abstracts was listing less than 100 for the metallurgical field. Presumably the other 300 were considered by abstractors of Chemicm Abstracts as either unimx>ortant or of no diemical interest.

Dr. DARROW has suggested that a short introduction may enhance the usefulness of the more specialized papers to be presented to the Society by members of the old Theoretical Physics group of the Metallurgical Laboratory (Plutonium Project). Because the presentation of these papers will have to be very brief and because some of our collaborators could not present abstracts in time for the meetings, I was most happy to follow our Secretary s invitation to summarize our work in general terms. 

The Institute of Scientific Information of the USSR Academy of Sciences publishes sixteen abstract journals, known collectively as the Referativnyi Zhurnal. One of these sections is the Referativnyi Zhurnal, Khimiya which began as a semi-monthly publication in 1953. In 1955 Biologicheskaya Khimiya which is a part of it, began to be published separately. A metallurgical section commenced in 1956. The format of RZhKh, as it is known, with its arrangement of two columns numbered consecutively, resembles that of Chemical Abstracts, while the classification of the contents is more like that of Chemisches Zentralblatt. Each issue has its author index, and about 3,500 informative abstracts. The abstracts themselves are in Russian, but for non-Russian...
