Metal isoreticular

Figure 4.1 clearly illustrates the modular construction of MOFs, with ligands used as pillars and metal clusters as node points. One unique feature of MOFs seems to be the possibihty to systematically modify their lattice. For instance, by replacing the terephthalate ligands of MOF-5 (Figure 4.1) with different dicarboxylate ligands, a family of isoreticular metal-organic frameworks (known in literature as the... [Pg.76]

Figure 1 Examples of two topologically distinct isoreticular MOF structures, (a) A cubic fragment of IRMOF-1. Each corner of the cubes is built up of a connector (b) and linked by a linker (c) (here 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate). The linkers form the edges of the cube. The connector can be described as four distorted tetrahedra Zn(01)30 connected by a central 02. (d) A cubic fragment of Cu-BTC (Cu3(BTC)2(H20)3 BTC 1,3,5-benzene-tricarboxylate) The structure is built up of the so-called paddle-wheels (e). Each metal atom completes its pseudo-octahedral coordination sphere, Cu(COO)2, with an aqua ligand. In the present work we show the results of a systematic study and give an overview over the properties of a wide range of isoreticular metal-organic frameworks. First results of calculations with an exchanged metal atom (Cu) in the connector are presented as well (Cu3(BTC)2(H20)3 BTC 1,3,5-benzene-tricarboxylate in the following will be used Cu-BTC). A large number of MOFs have been synthesized and reported by researchers to date. Isoreticular metal-orgarric frameworks (IRMOFs) denoted as IRMOF-w ( = 1 through 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16) are one of the most widely studied MOFs in the literature. These compounds possess cubic framework structures in whieh each member shares the same eubic topology [3, 21]. Figme 4 shows tire structure of IRMOF-l(MOF-5) as simplest member of IRMOF series. [Pg.115]
