Metal finishing compounds

Metal Finishing and Corrosion Control. The exceptional corrosion protection provided by electroplated chromium and the protective film created by applying chromium surface conversion techniques to many active metals, has made chromium compounds valuable to the metal finishing industry. Cr(VI) compounds have dominated the formulas employed for electroplating (qv) and surface conversion, but the use of Cr(III) compounds is growing in both areas because of the health and safety problems associated with hexavalent chromium and the low toxicity of trivalent chromium (see... [Pg.142]

RO is widely used for desalinization of brackish water to produce a potable water source. Special membranes have been developed for industrial uses and for purifying wastewater. Metal compounds are readily removed. RO is a commercially mature technology available for many special applications including the treatment of process water from metal finishing, pulp and paper, semiconductor, and electroplating industries. [Pg.920]

The Maipo River in central Chile runs past a metal finishing plant in the town of Puente Alto, where 100 kg of carbon tetrachloride (CCI4) are accidentally spilled into the river. Other compounds were also included in the spill, but the environmental health officials are most concerned about the CCI4. They have decided that all water supply plants on the river should be shut down if the concentration of the pulse is greater than 5 ppb. At what time and how far downstream will this occur ... [Pg.245]

Princeton Polymer Laboratories has discovered that mixtures of a metallic organic compound and a photoactivator produce a degradative effect in certain polymers that may be as much as ten fold greater than that produced by the individual compounds. The ratio of the components, type of plastic and total amount of additive are some of the important factors that affect the time to failure. Because of this strong synergistic effect, the amount of additive required is quite small, thus resulting in a very low cost, which has been estimated at less than 0.1 cent per pound of finished plastic. [Pg.306]
