Surfactant-based synthesis of mesoporous metal oxides and metal sulfides emerged about four years after the initial report of MCM-41 [21-36]. High surface area and thermally robust mesoporous metal oxides and sulfides represent a new class of materials with diverse opportunities for the development of improved fuel and solar cells, batteries, membranes, chemical delivery vehicles, heavy metal sponges, sensors, magnetic devices and new catalysts. All of these applications could benefit from tailorable Bronsted and Lewis acidity and basicity, flexible oxidation states, and tunable electronic, optical and magnetic properties. [Pg.42]

In the S I+ direct-synthesis pathway, anionic surfactants are used as templates for mesoporous metal oxides. For example, C12H25OSOT Na+ (SDS) as template for A1203 and Ga203 mesoporous materials with Ali3[A104Ali2(0H)24(H20)i27+] and Gai3-Keg-gin [Ga04Ali2(0H)24(H20)127+] as A1 and Ga source, respectively.11841... [Pg.537]

The high surface area of the mesoporous metal oxide film is critical to efficient device performance as it allows strong absorption of solar irradiation to be achieved by only a monolayer of adsorbed sensitiser dye. Whereas a dye monolayer absorbed on a flat interface exhibits only negligible light absorption (the optical absorption... [Pg.505]

In addition to innovative coatings for the protection of the hydrogen dissociation catalyst, mesoporous metal oxide layers for enhanced performance of the sensor elements were investigated. The results demonstrated the suitability of an electrodeposited tungsten oxide (WO3) as a chemochromic layer for hydrogen detection, providing a valuable alternative to vacuum deposition. [Pg.578]

Electrodeposited mesoporous metal oxides were investigated as chemochromic hydrogen sensor films. [Pg.580]

In summary, highly cubic ordered cobalt oxides with crystalline walls have been synthesized by an accurately controlled incipient wetness approach using mesoporous silica as hard template and cobalt nitrate as the precursors. Compared with the previously reported solution impregnation processes, this technique is facile, time-saving and economical. This technique can be used to synthesize ordered mesoporous metal oxides, and we expect that rvith this approach various kinds of mesoporous oxides or other materials can be synthesized, which may benefits their applications in many areas such as in catalysis, sensors, clean energy and electronics. [Pg.90]

Defined-sized mesoporous metal oxide materials are synthesized by templating organic molecular assemblies (Kresge et ah, 1992 Yanagisawa et al., 1990). The templating rodlike micelles form lyotropic LC states, and therefore, the hexagon-ally packed rods are oriented by the structural anisotropy of the surface. The photoorientation of an Az monolayer is transferred to a photooriented spincast film of a polysilane as the first step (Seki et al., 1999), and then deposition of mesoporous silica film is performed (Kawashima et al., 2004, 2002). In this attempt, the photoorientation of the Az monolayer is first transferred to a... [Pg.275]
