This is the Porod law for the large angle tail of the scattering curve in the meridional direction. In this case, the scattered intensity is proportional to -at large scattering angles. [Pg.1406]

In addition to the crystal forms, X-ray scattering studies indicate that when unoriented PEN fiber was drawn at 120 °C ( 7 g), a mesophase is generated. In this form, the molecular chains are in registry with each other in the meridional direction but not fully crystallized in the equatorial direction. This conclusion was based on the presence of additional meridional peaks not accounted for by the crystal structure obtained by X-ray scattering. Time constants for transport by the meridional and zonal winds can be derived in similar fashion, but in these directions it is somewhat more difficult to characterize the typical gradients of chemical species. Assuming for these horizontal changes a typical length scale of about 1000 km in the zonal and meridional directions, the time constant for transport by the zonal winds is of the order of days throughout the middle atmosphere, while that for mean meridional transport is of the order of months in the stratosphere and days in the upper mesosphere. [Pg.86]
