Mercuric-Potassium Iodide

Me er s test Bromocriptine mesilate is dissolved in methanol/water 3 10. After addition of one drop of diluted hydrochloric acid and one drop of Meyer s reagent (mercuric potassium iodide) and shaking, a white precipitate is produced. 

Synonyms potassium mercuriiodide mercuric potassium iodide. Its aqueous solution also is known as Channing s solution or Thoulet s solution.

Solubility. — 5 gm. of mercuric potassium iodide should completely dissolve in 10 cc. of water, and yield a clear solution which should remain clear even after adding 80 cc.

Other Alkaloids Add a few drops of mercuric-potassium iodide TS to 5 mL of a 1 50 aqueous solution. No precipitate forms. 

Alkaloids Dissolve 200 mg of sample in 5 mL of water, and add 1 mL of 2.7 A hydrochloric acid and 2 drops of mercuric-potassium iodide TS. No turbidity develops within 1 min. 

C. A 1 10 aqueous solution yields a white precipitate with mercuric chloride TS, and a red-brown precipitate with iodine TS. Mercuric-potassium iodide TS and trinitrophenol TS also cause precipitates to form. 

Alkaline Mercuric Potassium Iodide TS (Nessler s Reagent) See Mercuric Potassium Iodide TS, Alkaline. 

Mercuric-Potassium Iodide TS Mayer s Reagent) Dissolve 1.358 g of mercuric chloride (HgC ) in 60 mL of water. Dissolve 5 g of potassium iodide (KI) in 10 mL of water. Mix the two solutions, and add water to make 100 mL. 

Mercuric-Potassium Iodide TS, Alkaline (Nessler s Reagent) Dissolve 10 g of potassium iodide (KI) in 10 mL of water, and add slowly, with stirring, a saturated solution of mercuric chloride until a slight red precipitate remains undissolved. To this mixture add an ice-cold solution of 30 g of potassium hydroxide (KOH) in 60 mL of water, then add 1 mL more of the saturated solution of mercuric chloride. Dilute with water to 200 mL. Allow the precipitate to settle, and draw off the clear liquid. A 2-mL portion of this reagent, when added to 100 mL of a 1 300,000 solution...

Homatropine Methylbromide, USP. Homatropini methylbromidc. 3a-hydroxy-8-methyl-1 aN.Sa/f-tropanium bromide mandelate (Novatropine, Mesopin), occurs as a bitter. white, odorless powder and is affected by light. Tbe compound is readily soluble in water and alcohol but insoluble in ether. The pH of a 1% solution is 5.9 and that of a 10% solution is 4.5. Although a solution of the compound yields a precipitate with alkaloidal reagents, such as mercuric potassium iodide test solution, addition of alkali hydroxides or carbonates does not cause the precipitate thil occurs with nonquatemary nitrogen salts (c.g.. atropine, homatropine).
