Amphotericin B binds fungal membrane Ergosterol and inhibits its replication... 

Mode of action It inhibits the synthesis of fungal membrane ergosterol in the same manner as ketoconazole. 

It is generally accepted that AmB-induced injury to cells is due to its binding to sterols in the cell membrane ergosterol in the case of fungal cells and cholesterol in mammalian cells [14]. This binding is more avid to ergosterol than to cholesterol, which explains AmB s relatively selective toxicity to fungal cells [51, 52]. 

Anphotericin binds cell membranes and interferes with permeability and transport functions. It binds more strongly to the membranes of fungi becanse they have more affinity for the fungal membrane ergosterol than for cholesterol, the main sterol in the plasma membrane of animal cells. Nystatin has a similar mechanism of action. 

Amorolflne is a novel topical antifungal drug. It has a similar action to terbinaflne affecting synthesis of fungal cell membrane ergosterol and is generally fungicidal.
