CSPE. Chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE), a synthetic mbber manufactured by DuPont, is marketed under the name Hypalon. It can be produced as a self-curing elastomer designed to cure on the roof. The membrane is typically reinforced with polyester and is available in finished thicknesses of 0.75 to 1.5 mm. Because CSPE exhibits thermoplastic characteristics before it cures, it offers heat-weldable seams. After exposure on the roof, the membrane cures offering the toughness and mechanical set of a thermoset. The normal shelf life of the membrane for maintaining this thermoplastic characteristic is approximately six months. After the membrane is fully cured in the field, conventional adhesives are needed to make repairs. 

The illustrative examples could be produced only by using both fire dynamics and human factor information, which contains many crude approximations to the real world and omits completely many important effects. However, it is clear that real progress is being made toward attaining a sufficiently accurate predictive understanding of fire and its consequences so that a performance code can eventually be attained. In the Brown mechanism, setting aside the high energy required for isomerization from 3 to 3b, the final step of the reductive elimination would require the highest activation energy. Olefin insertion, the rate-determining step in the Halpern mechanism, is an easy process in this mechanism. The kinetics of the Brown mechanism is thus expected to be completely different from that of the Halpern mechanism.
