The subjects were 4 boys and 8 girls, 5 years of age, who were all in good health and with complete primary dentitions. Six subjects had primary spaces (located mesial to the maxillary and distal to the mandibular canines) and developmental spaces (present between the remaining teeth) (Fig. 7), and the other 6 subjects had no spaces in their arches (Fig. 8). The mean values of right and left primary spaces and total developmental spaces for 6 subjects who have spacing arch were 1.1 0.4 mm, 1.2 0.4, and 4.2 1.9 mm for the upper dentition and 0.8 0.3 mm, 0.7 0.3, and 3.8 1.4 mm for the lower dentition, respectively. [Pg.57]

Misunifications in the top bilaterian, Homo. The incidence of the congenital malformation CL/P, with or without cleft palate, is high at 1 in 700 live birth world-wide. In the human embryo the formation of the upper lip is accomplished between days 24 to 37. The stomodeum (primitive mouth) is surrounded by derivatives of the branchial arch 1, prominences frontonasal superiorly, maxillary bilaterally and mandibular inferiorly and bilaterally. The fix>ntonasal prominence becomes the medial nasal process and the nose. The maxillary and the mandibular prominences fuse in the midline the upper lip is formed by this union. It is questioned if the medial nasal process contributes to the fosion in the upper lip. The processes formatted bilaterally around the stomodeum will not unite and fuse in the CL/P syndrome. [Pg.514]

Initially, at early embryonic stages, the ventral and dorsal aortas communicate by a certain number of arterial bridges, the aortic arches (1 to 4 in the craniocaudal direction). Other embryonic arteries are the primitive maxillary artery, dorsal ophthalmic artery, ventral ophthalmic artery, anterior cerebral artery and the longitudinal neural arteries (Fig. 18.1). [Pg.235]

He claimed that the most pleasing appearance can be achieved when the two form outline of the inverted individual s face and maxillary central incisor are matching. The face form, personality and expression, the proportions of the other parts of the face, the lip and eye forms and colors, may affect on the agreeable facial look [1,2]. The oral cavity, the tooth shape and size, the arch form, the palatal contour, and the teeth arrangement [3-5]. The three terms sex, personality, and age (SPA) were considered dentogenic terms and had been introduced to the dental profession in the early 1950 to describe the art practice, and techniques used to achieve aesthetic goals in prosthodontics. [5]. A significant correlation was found between the face. [Pg.659]
