Charged with heresy by the Inquisition of Pope Urban VIII in 1633 and imprisoned because he taught the public that the Earth revolved around the sun. He was put under house arrest for the rest of his life. While under house arrest, he wrote Two New Sciences which summarized his earlier work on kinematics and strength of materials.
