Materials, nonliquid-crystalline

Orientation of Nonliquid-Crystalline Materials on Orienting Substrates.462... [Pg.451]

In the initial stage of the research into supramolecular materials, liquid-crystalline properties were extensively studied. These materials are one of the representative supramolecular materials, which exhibit unique properties by combination of anisotropic molecular order and supramolecular structures. Moreover, the induction of the liquid crystallinity is a useful indicator of the effect of supramolecular complexation. On the other hand, nonliquid-crystalline supramolecular materials have been developed in crystal and solid states. Therefore, for clarity, liquid-crystalline materials and some representative nonliquid-crystalline supramolecular materials in the neat states are described in separate sections. [Pg.138]

In this chapter we review the physical properties of liquid crystalline elastomers using publications until 1996. For a review of the physical properties of strongly cross-linked liquid crystalline polymers, which give rise to anisotropic nonliquid crystal line materials (duromers or anisotropic solids) we refer to the recent review by Hikmet and Lub [1]. [Pg.277]
