Soxhlet process using n-pentane as an eluent for more than 48 hours. The sources and refinery processes of these asphalt samples are listed in Table I. All of the asphalt samples were obtained through the material bank of Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) which was operated by University of Texas, Austin. 

Shortly after start-up, material banked up in the twin-screw feedo resisting in the drive being overloaded and the system being shut down. Some modifications were carried out to the drive, but resulted in the failure of mechanical components. During these unsuccessful conveying operations, the blower discharge pressure did not exceed 40 kPa g. 

Continental Shelf. A variety of terms may be appHed to deposits in the continental shelf (conshelf) including beach, bank, alluvial, strand-line, heavy mineral, or placet. These contain mostly industrial materials, mineral sands, or precious metals (Table 1). 

Pneumatic Pipelines. Pneumatic pipe systems are used to move blood samples, medicine, and suppHes between buildings in hospital complexes cash and receipts in drive-up banks parts and materials in factories refuse from apartment complexes and grain, cement, and many other materials. Most of these are small diameter and usually short however, a 17-km, 1220-mm dia pneumatic pipeline has been used to transport rock in the former Soviet Union since 1981, and a 3.2-km, 1000-mm dia line has moved limestone from the mine to a cement plant in Japan since 1983 (22). 

An extensive survey of accelerated test methods for anticorrosive coating performance which emphasizes the need to develop more meaningful methods of testing has been pubUshed (129). The most powerful tool available is the accumulated material in data banks correlating substrate, composition, apphcation conditions, and specifics of exposure environments with performance. 

Linear transport velocity of the material is almost proportional to the product of frequency and stroke for these conveyors. However, the transport velocity and the depth that can be obtained with a specific material is dependent on the handling characteristics of that material. Manufacturers have accumulated data banks relating material characteristics to attainable conveying velocities for their proprietary conveyor designs. 

Installation of control systems may have a positive economic benefit which will offset a portion of their cost (2). Such benefits include (1) tax deduction provisions, (2) recovery of materials previously emitted, (3) depreciation schedules favoring the owner of the source, and (4) banking or sale of the emission offset credits if the source is in a nonattainment area. 

The materials on the shortlist may be further investigated by use of the associated data bank in the Plascams system, which not only provides a precis of the materials properties and a property data bank but also information on material cost. Such a system cannot, however, be expected to include all of the factors... 

Filter life varies with make and type, and may be limited by the ability of the fan to operate against pressure drop. It is a function of the dirtiness of the air and the amount of material packed into the filter bank. Life may be quoted in terms of dust held in g/m face area. For fan selection knowledge of pressure drop is required. Typically, a panel filter might be quoted as operating from, say, 75 Pa initially at 2.5 m/s face velocity to 250 Pa when loaded and a HEPA might operate up to 700 Pa. The pressure drop...
