Matches, component compounds

Phosphorus compounds are very important as fertilizers (world use 1976/77 27-3 megatonnes as P2O5) but are widely used in matches, pesticides, special glasses and china ware, alloys (sleels. phosphor bronze), and metal treating (10%), detergents (40%), electrical components (e.g. GaP), foods and drinks (15%). Phosphates are an essential constituent of living organisms. U.S. production of phosphorus 1982 372 000 tonnes. 

Because the scent of a flower may be due to hundreds of different compounds, it is difficult for perfume manufacturers to duplicate floral scents. Establishing the identities and relative amounts of the components of a fragrance was actually impossible until the development of chromatography. Related techniques are used in forensic laboratories to match samples of fluids, by food manufacturers to test product quality, and to search for evidence of life on other planets. All these techniques depend on subtle differences in intermolecular forces to separate compounds. 

Acerola is considered one of the best natural sources of AA and for this reason, the influence of this component on the stability of anthocyanins from acerola extracts was determined and compared to results from agai, which contain no detectable AA. The stability of acerola was hampered by the high concentration of AA in the fruit. Moreover, the addition of AA to the agai solution in concentrations equivalent to the concentration in the acerola caused a dramatic decrease of the stability of agai. The decrease was not sufficient to match the ko, s value observed in acerola, indicating the existence of stabilizing compounds in the agai. ... 

Before the polymer and additive can be mixed together, the compounder must first introduce the components into the mixing equipment. Since additives come in many different forms, either solid or liquid, and different shapes and sizes, the means of their introduction must be matched to the material being added. 

As an example of the application of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, Fig. 1.7 shows a reconstructed chromatograph obtained for an industrial sludge. The Finnigan MAT 1020 instrument was used in this work. Of the 27 compounds searched for, 15 were found. These data were automatically quantified. This portion of the report contains the date and time at which the run was made, the sample description, who submitted the sample and the analyst, followed by the names of the compounds. If no match for a library entry was found, the component was listed as not found . Also shown is the method of quantification and the area of the peak (height could also have been chosen).
