In 1989, international chess master David Levy was defeated by a computer program. Deep Thought, developed by IBM. Only ten years earlier, Levy had predicted that no computer program would ever beat a chess master.

Solme I. Cau received her Diplome d ing eur and masters degree in materiab science from Ecole Europeenne de Chimin Polymeies et Materially Universite de Strasboui France, in 2004. She then studied polymer chemistry under the supervision of Prof. David M. Haddleton at the University of Warwick in England and received her PhD in 2008. Since then, she has b n woridng as a postdoctoral research associate in Professor Wooley s laboratory first at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and now at Texas A iM University, Collie Station, TX. Her research focuses on synthesis, characterization, and assembly of weU-defined block copolymers, functionalization of nanostmctures for imaging, and, more recently, preparation of hybrid inoiganiC -polymer magnetic nanostructures.
