MAOIs Beta blockers

MAOIs BETA-BLOCKERS t hypotensive effect Additive hypotensive effect. Postural 1 BP is a common side-effect of MAOIs Monitor BP at least weekly until stable. Warn patients to report symptoms of hypotension (light-headedness, dizziness on standing, etc.)... [Pg.164]

Early controlled studies demonstrated the effectiveness of irreversible MAOIs, particularly phenelzine and tranylcypromine, for generalized social anxiety disorder. Prior to the advent of the SSRIs, MAOis were considered the gold standard treatment for social anxiety disorder. The best studied of the MAOis, phenelzine, has proved snperior to both beta blockers and the benzodiazepine alprazolam in treating generalized social anxiety disorder. [Pg.164]

Drugs that may affect repaglinide include CYP 450 inhibitors (eg, clarithromycin, erythromycin, ketoconazole, miconazole), CYP 450 inducers (eg, barbiturates, carbamazepine, rifampin), beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, chloramphenicol, corticosteroids, coumarins, estrogens, gemfibrozil, isoniazid, itraconazole, levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol, MAOIs, nicotinic acid, NSAIDs, oral contraceptives, phenothiazines, phenytoin, probenecid, salicylates, simvastatin, sulfonamides, sympathomimetics, thiazides and other diuretics, and thyroid products. [Pg.281]

Drugs that may increase the effects or side effects of bupropion include levodopa, MAOIs, ritonavir, antidepressants, antipsychotics, beta blockers, type 1C antiarrhythmics. [Pg.1339]

Drugs that may be affected by brimonidine include CNS depressants, beta-blockers, antihypertensives, MAOIs, and cardiac glycosides. [Pg.2076]

Over the next 20 years, the benzodiazepines, TCAs, MAOIs, and beta-blockers were used to treat anxiety disorders. By the mid-1980s, up to 10% of all Americans were taking a benzodiazepine. In 1988, fluoxetine (Prozac) was introduced by Eli Lilly as the first selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) for the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders. Its success led to the development of several other SSRI drugs. Today, these drugs are the first line of drug treatment for most anxiety disorders. [Pg.94]
