Extrusion. In general, extmsion is the process of forcing a polymer melt through a die (104,105). Typical extmsion appHcations include initial resin pelletization after manufacture and production of film, sheet, pipe, tubing, and insulated wire. The HDPE extmsion temperature is around 150°C, the pressure 40—50 MPa (5800—7250 psi). An extmsion production line usually consists of an extmder (mono- or twin-screw) with a die at the end, a cooling and shaping device, a pulling device (a roUer), and a cutter. 

The number of contact lens wearers has grown to an estimated 24 million in the United States and 50 million worldwide. Concurrendy, there has been a proliferation of contact lens manufacturers and products. The 1980s saw the widespread introduction of lens products made of more oxygen-permeable materials, ie, rigid gas-permeable (RGP) materials that made PMMA lenses virtually obsolete and high water content hydrogels that competed with HEMA-based lenses. 

However, the developments of microprocessor or computer-based instrumentation that can be used to monitor the operating condition of plant equipment, machinery and systems have provided the means to manage the maintenance operation. They have provided the means to reduce or eliminate unnecessary repairs, prevent catastrophic machine failures, and reduce the negative impact of the maintenance operation on the profitability of manufacturing and production plants.

Uses. Selenium is used extensively in the manufacture and production of glass, pigments, rubber, metal alloys, textiles, petroleum and medical therapeutic agents. It is markedly photoconductive and widely used in photoelectric devices.
