Saccharomyces rouxii, mannan

Mannans of Hansenula capsulata Y-1842 and H. holstii Y-2448 differ structurally from the phosphonomannan components.83 The man-nan of H. capsulata is probably a cell-wall component, and it has the linear, repeating-structure 6. Other Pichia and Hansenula mannans have predominantly linear structures.84 The 13C-n.m.r. spectrum of 6 (see Fig. 2) is distinguishable from that of the branched-chain man-nan85 from Saccharomyces rouxii (repeating unit 7.)... 

The interaction between con A and a-mannans from a variety of micro-organisms was studied by So and Goldstein.204 The mannans from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Saccharomyces rouxii, and Sarcina sp., and the phosphomannan from Saccharomyces pini Y-2579, all gave classical precipitin curves similar to those obtained for dextrans,320,362 but unlike the extended curves given by glycogen.369 A synthetic, linear (1—>3)-a-D-mannopyranan did not precipitate204 with con A.

Saccharomyces rouxii mannan. Gorin and Perlin have established that the main slime polysaccharide produced during the fermentation of this yeast is a mannan. The marman ([a] +53 ) on acetolysis gave a mixture of acetates which were deacetylated to the parent oligosaccharides. A. disaccharide so isolated was shown to be 2-0-a-D-mannopyranosyl-D-mannose by methylation and isolation of 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-methyl-D-mannose and...
