Various unrelated medical conditions have been observed to be associated with lowered serum or whole blood manganese. These include osteoporosis, diabetes mellitus, and epilepsy. The clinical relevance of such observations is uncertain. [Pg.1131]

Manganese deficiency can lead to several diseases including osteoporosis, epilepsy, impaired growth, poor bone formation and skeletal defects, abnormal glucose tolerance, and altered lipid and carbohydrate metabolism (Aschner and Aschner, 2005 Nkwenkeu et ah, 2002). [Pg.375]

Animals which are manganese defident have malformed bones which are similar to those observed in osteoporosis. They also have problems with their tendons. [Pg.550]
