Manganese kinetics

Left side of Fig. 4 shows a ribbon model of the catalytic (C-) subunit of the mammalian cAMP-dependent protein kinase. This was the first protein kinase whose structure was determined [35]. Figure 4 includes also a ribbon model of the peptide substrate, and ATP (stick representation) with two manganese ions (CPK representation). All kinetic evidence is consistent with a preferred ordered mechanism of catalysis with ATP binding proceeding substrate binding. [Pg.190]

A single report concerning the kinetics of the oxidation of dimethyl sulphoxide by tervalent manganese has been published143. This reaction proceeds by one-electron transfer forming the sulphoxide radical cation which, in the presence of a monomer such as acrylonitrile, may be used to initiate polymerization. Equation (48) has been proposed to describe the reaction. [Pg.984]

Kinetic 37, 50-52, 97, 168) and stereochemical 54, 191, 192) investigations on the carbonylation of manganese alkyls and the decarbonylation of manganese acyls were already discussed in Sections III-V. The original finding (50) that the rate of CO insertion follows second-order kinetics has now been qualified 192). At higher pressures of CO (>15 atm) the first-order rate law [Eq. (23)] is obeyed. [Pg.125]

In an earlier series of experiments, Cullis and Ladbury examined the kinetics of the permanganate oxidation of hydrocarbons in acetic acid solution. Initial attack on toluene occurs at the methyl group and a total order of two was found. Electron-withdrawing agents reduced the rate of oxidation. However, the effects of added salts were complex and the authors believe that lower oxidation states of manganese are responsible for the oxidation. The oxidation of ethylbenzene produced acetophenone, the process being second-order with... [Pg.298]

The permanganate oxidation of phenols is complicated by the intervention of lower oxidation states of manganese, (c/. the oxidation of toluene, p. 298). For example, the oxidation of 2,6-dinitrophenol in weakly acidic solution displays an induction period, following second-order kinetics thereafter. However, addition of potassium fluoride inhibits reaction almost completely, but manganous ions strongly accelerate it. [Pg.313]
