Managing Sustainable Growth

At the operational level, rather than adding a separate layer of management, sustainable growth is matrixed into the entire system with a network of functional experts. This network is coordinated by a sustainable growth champion, and was served by the corporate vice president for safety, health, and environment. This function, however, has been taken over by the newly created post of Chief Sustainability Officer of DuPont.

The emphasis on innovation and integrated science is further strengthened through collaborations. DuPont has, in recent years, established substantial alliances with various research entities around the world. The foremost example of this is the 38 million DuPont-led industry, academia, and government consortium for the development of renewable energy and feedstock technologies, known as the Integrated Corn-Based Bioproducts Refinery (ICBR) project.

Companies Sustainable growth is allied to risk management. 

Annual report since this is the world s largest chemicals company it was felt important to include an analysis of the CER even though no published annual report or CER were received. They were therefore both taken from the internet. The annual report reviews business activity in the Management Discussion and Analysis of the results. Part of this discussion is given to Environmental Matters , but largely concerns itself with the financial implications. The 1999 DuPont sustainable growth report is mentioned in the annual report. 

Since the early 1980s, consumers seeking environmental-Mendly products and organizations have increasingly become aware of environmental management systems, socially responsible behaviour, sustainable growth and development around the world (Phau and Ong, 2007 Saicheua et al., 2012). 

Seizing the opportunities presented by that shift, as always, requires unique foresight and capabilities. Despite the turmoil in the economy in recent years, some nations have managed to increase their prosperity, advance the frontiers of science and learning, and build multiple kinds of new expertise. For them, the result today is an economy poised for sustained growth in traditional markets and robust growth in the new markets. 

Sustainable growth must therefore encompass environmental, social, and economic factors and maintain a balance between them. This implies consideration of a wide range of factors in determining solutions to environmental problems. Although the public eye is often focused only on waste management and recycling, rigorous and correct technical solutions require that the overall, much broader, picture be studied.
