Recycling of wastes is the preferable waste management method after source reduction opportunities have been exhausted. Recycling can be performed within the process itself, within the plant, or off-site, and can involve reuse of the entire waste stream, or recovery of a part of it. Recovery of the stream s metal content can be achieved through operations such as electrolytic recovery, reverse osmosis, and ion exchange. 

Restrictions on the land disposal of metal wastes have dramatically increased the cost of their management, and make it more attractive for manufacturers to implement measures that prevent the generation of those wastes, or recycle them once they are generated, rather... 

Similarly, PBCDF agent-contaminated scrap metal that has been thermally decontaminated and further cleaned to remove loose residue may be managed as a hazardous waste and disposed of at a permitted RCRA TSDF or, alternatively, managed as scrap metal and recycled exclusively by smelting (ADEQ, 2006).

The application of RO in some teclinological processes for the food industry (dewatering, concentration, removal of solids, etc.), metal plating (recycling of heavy metals and water), photochemical processing and other constitutes an essential part of waste management.
