Table 8 indicates the compatibiUty of magnesium with a variety of chemicals and common substances. Because the presence of even small amounts of impurities in a chemical substance may result in significantly altered performance, a positive response in the table only means that tests under the actual service conditions are warranted (132). Other factors which may significantly alter magnesium compatibiUty include the presence of galvanic couples, variations in operating temperatures, alloy composition, or humidity levels. [Pg.333]

Intermediate alloy compositions include a zinc-15%-aluminium alloy for metal spraying (higher aluminium contents are unsuitable for spraying wire) and a zinc-30%-aluminium-0.2%-magnesium-0.2%-silicon coating (Lavegal) for sheet. [Pg.497]

Slow strain test. The strain rate chosen frequently for the tests, based on several studies, indicates important susceptibility to cracking at about 2 x 10 6 s 1 for steels, aluminum and magnesium alloys. However, the tests refer to open-circuit conditions and the strain rate sensitivity of cracking is dependent upon potential as well as solution composition. Where necessary the potential of the specimens can be controlled using a potentiostat during slow-strain-rate tensile testing.171 The reduction of area is a simple and appropriate way to quantify the susceptibility to SCC. [Pg.452]

The key to the partitioning of thorium in the described conceptual flow sheet is the solubility in cadmium-magnesium. Experimental data associated with this problem have been obtained. The weight percent thorium in solution was determined by taking samples of the equilibrated liquid at varying temperatures and alloy compositions. The samples were analyzed for thorium, magnesium, and cadmium using atomic absorption spectroscopy and the results are estimated to have a relative accuracy of 3%. [Pg.206]
