Magnesian limestone

Magnesian limestone is iatemiediate between high calcium and dolomitic, and contains 5—20% MgCO. It occurs in varying purity. [Pg.164]

Magnesian, limestone is calcined in an. ordinary limekiln, and Tepcatcdly washed with water to remove as musk of the lime as possible. The extent to which this is carried may be inferred from the following analyses, by Richardson, of a sample of lime in its natural state, and after it had been calcined and washed... [Pg.534]

TALK — is White like Gypsum, and is therefore called Spar-plaster, Mortar, Magnesian Limestone, etc. [Pg.394]

Occurs as carbonate in dolomite or magnesian limestone, and AS silicate in mica, asbestos, soapstone, meerschaum, talc, and in other minerals. It also accomp.anies Ca in the forms in which it is found in the animal and vegetable worlds. [Pg.204]

Magnesium carbonate is the main undesirable impurity which is generally present in naturally occurring calcarious materials. The level of MgO in the clinker should not exceed 5 % [9.2]. Indeed, many cement producers favour an upper limit of 3 %. For this reason, dolomitic and magnesian limestones are unsuitable for cement making. [Pg.82]

Magnesian limestone is generally understood to be mainly CaCOs with 5 to 20 % of MgCOs. [Pg.415]

In addition to clays, many other minerals were formed. Sparingly-soluble salts such as calcium and magnesium carbonates and colloidal silica, were precipitated from sea-water and deposited on the sea bed, forming limestone, magnesian limestone, and silica rocks. [Pg.54]

Dolomite occurs in the Permian Magnesian Limestone and the Carboniferous Limestone (Table 9 ). The Permian deposit runs along the eastern side of the Pennines from Nottingham in the south to Coxhoe and Hartlepool in the north. Deposits of dolomite are found also in South Wales. [Pg.101]

Dolomite 1) Mineralogy A common, well-ordered, carbonate mineral with the formula CaMg(C03>2 also called magnesian spar. 2) Sedimentology sensu stricto A carbonate rock with more than 90% dolomite mineral, also known as dolostone. 3) Sedimentology sensu lato A carbonate rock with more than 50% dolomite mineral, also known as magnesian limestone. [Pg.456]

A cavity formed in magnesian limestone, parish church, Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. [Pg.283]

Tennant also investigated the action of fused nitre on gold and platinum, both of which he found to be corroded. He found that magnesian limestone acts prejudicially when used as a fertiliser. He described a method of producing a double distillation with the same heat, and a simple method of preparing potassium by heating caustic potash and iron in a tube and condensing the vapour in a vessel in a cooler part of the tube. He described native boric acid of the Lipari Islands. ... [Pg.790]
