M. vastus lateralis

Volume M. vastus lateralis and cervicodorsal subcutis 1.0 ml per site auricular vein 0.5 ml per site. [Pg.387]

The test is preferably conducted by injections into the M. sacrospialis on the dorsum or into the M. vastus lateralis on the femur of the rabbits. Alternatively, in the rat the injections can be performed into the M. quadriceps femoris. Also dogs could be used, however for animal wellfare reasons, smaller animals are preferred. Injection of the vehicle is performed on the contra-lateral side of the animal. The injection volume should be 1 ml for smaller animals and 2 ml for the dog. [Pg.798]

FIGURE 40.2 In vivo local tissue inritancy and in vitro hemolytic activity of CyDs. Dose (lOOmg/mL) injected into M. vastus lateralis of rabbits. The reciprocal of the concentration (w/v%) of CyDs to induce 50% lysis of human erythrocytes. Used as suspension due to the limited solubility. Less than 0.2 w/v%. [Pg.816]

The haemolytic activities of natural CyDs are reported to be in the order p- > a- > y-CyD. These differences are ascribed to the differential solubilization of membrane components by each CyD. When the CyD cavity is modified by chemical derivatization, its effects on cell membranes can be changed dramatically from those of parent CyDS. When the muscle tissue damage due to the injection of hydrophilic CyDs was compared with that of mannitol and nonionic surfactants, following a single injection (100 mg ml" ) of the compounds into M. vastus lateralis of rabbits (Fig. 38.2), a-CyD and DM-P-CyD showed a relatively high irritation reaction, the degree of... [Pg.651]

Human muscle specimens (M vastus lateralis) without metabolic myopathies were obtained from patients who were undergoing hip surgery. [Pg.88]

The kinetic properties of carnitine palmitoyltransferases were investigated in homogenates of M vastus lateralis from 8 orthopaedic patients. As shown in Table 1 the total activity of CPT was 1.6 0.4I.U./g NCP with a range between 0.8 and 2.2I.U./g NCP. [Pg.88]

Table 1, Activities of CPT I and CPT II in homogenates of human M. vastus lateralis Total activity of CPT was measured radioehcmically in muscle homogenates as described in Methods. Further measurements were performed in the additional presence of 0.4mM malonyl-CoA. The malonyl-CoA-insensitive activity was attributed to CPT II, Acitivies were related cither at non collagen protein (NCP) or the weight of frozen sample (s.w.). Data as mean of at least two separate measurements of each muscle. ABSTRACT. From the gross and histological examinations, B-cyclodextrin (B-CyD) was found to reduce the muscular tissue damage produced by chlorpromazine hydrochloride (CPZ) on M. vastus lateralis in rabbits. The protective effect of B-CyD may be attributable to the decrease in affinity of CPZ to the tissue membrane through inclusion complexation. There was no appreciable difference in the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic behaviors between CPZ and its B-CyD complex in rabbits. These results suggest that 3-CyD is useful to reduce the local tissue toxicity of CPZ without altering the pharmacological efficacy. [Pg.637]
