Lungs parenchymal

The histamine content of isolated HHMC (=3 pg/cell) was comparable to lung parenchymal and skin mast cells. The mean tryptase content of HHMC (=24 pg/10 cells)... [Pg.99]

Fig. 1.6 Effect of adenosine, CPA and 2-C1-IB-MECA at the concentrations indicated on lung parenchymal strips prepared from actively sensitised Brown Norway rats 3 h post intratracheal instillation of ovalbumin (0.3 mg kg 1 filled columns) or saline (open columns). Responses are expressed relative to the response to bethanechol (100 pM) which was taken as 100%. Mean values ( SEM) from the number of individual experiments shown in parentheses are presented. P < 0.05, P < 0.001 that the value differs significantly from the equivalent value in the saline challenged group (from Wolber and Fozard 2005, with permission)... Parenchyma The functional cells or tissue of a gland or organ for example, the lung parenchyma. The major lung parenchymal abnormality associated with exposure to asbestos is the development of scar-like tissue referred to as pulmonary interstitial fibrosis or asbestosis. [Pg.389]

Pulmonary interstitial fibrosis Scar-like tissue that develops in the lung parenchymal tissue in response to inhalation of dusts of certain types of substances such as asbestos. [Pg.390]

Figure 1.3 Comparative rates of decline in the density of epidermal LCs, lung parenchymal DCs, and tracheal epithelial DCs, after whole body X-irradlatlon of rats. Data were Initially derived as mean number of DCs per unit surface area (for tracheal epithelium and epidermis) or per microscope field (for lung) using groups of three to four animals per time point and normalize to respective day 0 control figures for presentation. Reproduced with permission from Holt et al. (1994). Napsin-A (Nap-A) is an aspartic proteinase that is expressed in normal lung parenchymal type II pneumo-cytes, and in proximal and convoluted tubules of the kidney. It is present in lysosomes of type II pneumocytes... [Pg.373]

Lung parenchymal tissues display prominent viscoelastic behavior. The lung tissue matrix represents a composite of collagen and elastic fibers, PGs, and GAGs. [Pg.115]

SLE is a common CTD with frequent chest manifestations (Table 3). The most common chest manifestation is pleurisy that can occur with or without a pleural effusion. Although ILD has been described in SLE, more common is a presentation of lung parenchymal injury called lupus pneumonitis. SLE may also cause alveolar hemorrhage, a particularly serious form of lung involvement. This review will discuss what is known about these disease states. [Pg.494]
