Lung tumors vimentin

Epithelioid sarcoma Young adults. Deep soft tissue of extremities. Metastases to lung, lymph node, skin. Epithelioid tumor cells, granuloma-like growth pattern Keratin+, EMA+, vimentin+, CD34+, CK5/6-, p63- Nothing specific EM may be helpful...

S-100 protein, HMB-45, and light chain immunoglobulin (evaluated in 1 case). In this author s experience with 6 cases primary in the lung, 5 showed immunostaining for vimentin (Fig. 12.31) and 1 showed coexpression of vimentin and keratin. Miyagi and associates described 3 cases of primary lung rhabdoid tumor, all associated with an adenocarcinoma. The authors concluded that the rhabdoid cells in these cases represented dedifferentiated components of an adenocarcinoma. 

Pleomorphic mesotheliomas exist and are composed of pleomorphic epithelioid and sarcomatoid cells. Occasional multinucleated macrophage giant cells are associated with the tumor cells. Pleomorphic mesotheliomas need to be differentiated from pleomorphic carcinomas of the lung. In most instances, pleomorphic mesotheliomas express pan cytokeratin and vimentin.
