Lung disease blood supply

Generalized/organ specific (lung disease, anemia, decreased blood supply) Cellular hypoxia (cyanide poisoning of electron transport chain in mitochondria) Inflammatory (pathology from abnormal inflammatory response in the body) Autoimmune and/or chronic diseases (systemic lupus erythmatosus, rheumatoid arthritis)... 

The macrocyclic glycopeptide Teicoplanin has been used very successfully by Irv Wainer and his group at Georgetown University, to monitor the enantiomers of Albuterol in blood plasma. Albuterol (supplied under the names of Proventil and Ventolin) is used to dilate breathing passages and make breathing easier. It is often used to prevent bronchospasm in certain cases of lung diseases. 

These plateaus describe a reduction in the active zones that is exactly matched by an increase in the jjermeability, or vice versa, keeping the current constant. Operation of mammalian lungs near the onset of these plateaus allows for the maximum current to be supplied to the blood by the lung while maintaining "robustness" necessary to mitigate any reduction in permeability that might occur from, for example, disease.
