Low back

Fig. 1. Bone scan of a 75-year-old woman presented with acute onset of low back pain employing either Tc-medronate [25681-89-4] or Tc-oxidronate [14255-61-9]. The bone scan of (a) the anterior and (b) the posterior pelvis shows increased uptake in the region of the sacral bone (arrows). The bladder (arrowheads) is a normal route of tracer excretion and is also prominently identified in the image. Fig. 1. The advantages of monosized chromatographic supports are as follows a uniform column packing, uniform flow velocity profile, low back pressure, high resolution, and high-speed separation compared with the materials of broad size distribution. Optical micrographs of 20-p,m monosized macroporous particles and a commercial chromatography resin of size 12-28 p,m are shown in Fig. 1.4. There is a clear difference in the size distribution between the monodispersed particles and the traditional column material (87). [Pg.19]

Conventional safety relief valves, as usually installed, produce unsatisfactory performance w hen variable back pressure exists [10, 33]. See Figure 7-6. The same variable back pressure forces affect the set pressure release also. At low back pressures, the valve flow falls rapidly as compared with the flow for a theoretical nozzle. See Figures 19 and 20 in Ref. [33a]. [Pg.431]

The financial impact of pain is considered to be significant. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) estimated that the cost of low back pain alone was between 50 billion and 100 billion per year.12 The American Productivity Audit of the United States workforce, conducted from 2001 to 2002, revealed that the cost of lost productivity due to arthritis, back pain, headache, and other musculoskeletal pain was approximately 80 billion per year.13... [Pg.488]

The most common osteoporosis-related fractures involve the vertebrae, proximal femur, and distal radius (wrist or Colies fracture). Two-thirds of patients with vertebral fractures are asymptomatic the remainder present with moderate to severe back pain that radiates down a leg after a new vertebral fracture. The pain usually subsides significantly after 2 to 4 weeks, but residual, chronic, low-back pain may persist. Multiple vertebral fractures decrease height and sometimes curve the spine (kyphosis or lordosis) with or without significant back pain. [Pg.31]

Acute bacterial prostatitis High fever, chills, malaise, myalgia, localized pain (perineal, rectal, sacrococcygeal), frequency, urgency, dysuria, nocturia, and retention Chronic bacterial prostatitis Voiding difficulties (frequency, urgency, dysuria), low back pain, and perineal and suprapubic discomfort Physical examination... [Pg.567]

Another SNRI, bicifadine (20), formerly under clinical development for chronic low back pain, is now being developed for neuropathic pain [65,66]. Flufenoxine, also known as F-98214-TA (21), was reported to display greater potency than several reference antidepressants in animal models predictive of antidepressant and anxiolytic activities [67]. SEP-227162 (structure undisclosed) is another SNRI reportedly undergoing clinical development [68]. [Pg.20]

Within standard BPM-schemes almost any geometry n(x,y,z) can be considered except for abrupt z-dependent changes of the refractive index. Fortunately, lO-devices usually are intended to have low loss, good transmission and low back-reflection, which is congruent with the above limitation. Thus, BPM got such popular over the years... [Pg.264]

Predisposing factors for low back pain include osteoporosis, trauma and pregnancy. [Pg.209]

The two-coordinate phosphorus atom of a phosphonio-phospholide moiety is generally a weaker Lewis-base than a tertiary phosphine as a consequence, the complexes are thermally less stable (this holds in particular for metal fragments with low back donation capability, e.g. Mn(CO)4Cl) [35, 43], benzophospholide ligands are easily displaced by tertiary phosphines such as PhsP [27, 44], and bidentate ligands comprising a phosphonio-ben-zophospholide and a phosphine site react with transition metal fragments preferentially at the phosphine site coordination of both phosphorus atoms is only observed if the substrate offers two vacant coordination sites [27, 47]. [Pg.198]

Recently, Tai, and Gohda [546] have reported a method using a novel technique named hydrophilic interaction chromatography, which use a polar stationary phase with aqueous-organic mobile phase. It enables to quantify acciffately AA and related compounds, to run at high flow rate thanks to the low back pressiffe, and to be easily coupled with an MS. [Pg.620]

Rheumatic disease is defined as disease of connective tissue and medical disorders of the musculoskeletal system . The medical discipline concerned with these diseases is referred to as rheumatology. The majority of rheumatic diseases are soft tissue rheumatism and nonspecific low back pain (LBP), autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases, osteoarthritis (OA), osteoporosis, crystal-deposition disease and infectious arthritis. [Pg.659]
