Loose Shoulder

It is recommended practice to break a different joint on each trip, giving the crew an opportunity to look at each pin and box every third trip. Inspect the shoulders for signs of loose connections, galls, and possible washouts. 

The equilibrium relationships found by Sorrell (1977) were valid only for room temperature (22+2 °C) and, because samples were allowed to cure in sealed containers, for equilibrium water vapour pressures determined by the assembly of phases present. The phases which exist under such conditions were quite unequivocally found to be 4 1 5 and 1 1 2. However Sorrell pointed out that it is entirely possible that lower hydration states of either phase could be stable at higher temperatures or lower humidities. In particular the 4 1 4 phase (Feitknecht, 1933) may well be such a phase, particularly as one of the five waters of hydration is known to be held only loosely in the structure. Indeed, Sorrell reported that he observed a slight shoulder on the larger dehydration peak of the DTG curve of the 4 1 5 phase that might be assigned to the loss of this first water molecule. He did not, however, succeed in isolating or characterizing a 4 1 4 phase.

There is a subset of PAPRs that do not form a tight seal with the face. These are known as hood-type PAPRs. A large, loosely fitting hood usually made of a butyl rubber-coated material covers the head, shoulders, and upper chest. 

Cooling to 77 K leads to an increase of intensity of the whole spectrum except for Fsh which looses intensity. In contrast to F and F2, which belong to the same vibronic progression, the nature of Fjh is therefore still the subject of discussion, as is the shoulder Aq in the absorption spectrum. The temperature-dependent intensity ratio between Fi and Fjh points at emissions from two states of different energy which are in thermal equilibrium (see Figure 13.24 below). 

Figure 3 reports the 77K fluorescence emission spectrum of the PSII complex. We observe an emission maximum at 694 nm and a shoulder at 685 nm. When the minor antennas are separated from the reaction center core, the latter looses the capacity to emit at 694 nm, while the minor antennas isolated emit at 680 nm. This finding suggests that the 694 nm emission is a property of one or both of the minor antennas when they are connected to the reaction center core. Shawls A shawl is a simple item of clothing, loosely worn over the shoulders, upper body, and arms, and sometimes also over the head. It is usually a rectangular or square piece of cloth, or can be triangular in shape. Other shapes, as can be seen in Figure 6.37, include oblong shawls.

There are four distinct sections to the preform the finish, the taper, the body, and the end-cap. Similarly, the bottle sections are the finish, shoulder, the body, and the base. There is a loose relationship between the sections of the preform and the corresponding sections of the bottle. 

The WAXS data of vacuum-dried sealed membranes illustrate a polymer peak at 4.5 A and a shoulder peak at 3.3 A. This is an indication of the presence of water even after a long exposure to vacuum. NMR studies of these polymer membranes in our laboratories have established the presence of two types of water molecules [32]. These consist of loose water molecules that are in equilibrium with the environment and tightly-bound water molecules that are difficult to remove.
