Workers in the metals treatment industry are exposed to fumes, dusts, and mists containing metals and metal compounds, as well as to various chemicals from sources such as grinding wheels and lubricants. Exposure can be by inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact. Historically, metal toxicology was concerned with overt effects such as abdominal coHc from lead toxicity. Because of the occupational health and safety standards of the 1990s such effects are rare. Subtie, chronic, or long-term effects of metals treatment exposure are under study. An index to safety precautions for various metal treatment processes is available (6). As additional information is gained, standards are adjusted.

The flow sensitivity of a detector will also be one of the factors that determines the long term noise and thus will influence the sensitivity or minimum detectable concentration of the detector.lt is usually measured as the change in detector output for unit change in flow rate through the sensor cell. Warfarin has been the primary oral anticoagulant used in the United States for the past 60 years. Warfarin is the anticoagulant of choice when long-term or extended anticoagulation is required. Warfarin is FDA-approved for the prevention and treatment of VTE, as well as the prevention of thromboembolic complications in patients with myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, and heart valve replacement. While very effective, warfarin has a narrow therapeutic index, requiring frequent dose adjustments and careful patient monitoring.15,29...

Cyanide in the body is biotransformed to thiocyanate quickly. People may also be exposed to thiocyanate from dietary, industrial, and medical sources. The plasma concentration of thiocyanate has also been used as an index of long-term exposure to cigarette smoke (Liu and Yun 1993). Some authors have determined thiocyanate in body fluids as a measure of cyanide exposure, while others measure cyanide concentrations in body fluids as a measure of cyanide exposure.
