Long-term 696 INDEX

Workers in the metals treatment industry are exposed to fumes, dusts, and mists containing metals and metal compounds, as well as to various chemicals from sources such as grinding wheels and lubricants. Exposure can be by inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact. Historically, metal toxicology was concerned with overt effects such as abdominal coHc from lead toxicity. Because of the occupational health and safety standards of the 1990s such effects are rare. Subtie, chronic, or long-term effects of metals treatment exposure are under study. An index to safety precautions for various metal treatment processes is available (6). As additional information is gained, standards are adjusted. [Pg.239]

The flow sensitivity of a detector will also be one of the factors that determines the long term noise and thus will influence the sensitivity or minimum detectable concentration of the detector.lt is usually measured as the change in detector output for unit change in flow rate through the sensor cell. Again, the refractive index detector is the most sensitive to flow rate changes. [Pg.165]

As an example, a foam prepared from III, alumina trihydrate as a filler, benzoyl peroxide as a curing agent, and azobis formamide as a blowing agent, leads to a material with an oxygen index of 48, a long-term stability to at least 150 °C, and a smoke density about one fifth that of a commercial foam [284]. [Pg.202]

Warfarin has been the primary oral anticoagulant used in the United States for the past 60 years. Warfarin is the anticoagulant of choice when long-term or extended anticoagulation is required. Warfarin is FDA-approved for the prevention and treatment of VTE, as well as the prevention of thromboembolic complications in patients with myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation, and heart valve replacement. While very effective, warfarin has a narrow therapeutic index, requiring frequent dose adjustments and careful patient monitoring.15,29... [Pg.149]

Monitor short- and long-term nutritional status through evaluation of height, weight, and body mass index. Ideally, parameters should be near the normals for non-CF patients. [Pg.254]

International Pharmaceutical Abstracts. International Pharmaceutical Abstracts [104], published semimonthly, is an abstracting/indexing publication which covers all pharmaceutical literature. IPA covers approximately 700 worldwide pharmaceutical, medical, herbal, cosmetics, and health-related publications. IPA features all abstracts from American Society of Health-System Pharmacist s Annual, Midyear Clinical, and Home, Hospice, and Long-Term Care Meetings, coverage of state pharmacy journals, and American Pharmaceutical Association and American College of Clinical Pharmacy meeting abstracts. IPA indicates articles that offer CE credit. IPA is commercially available in several formats. [Pg.783]

Cyanide in the body is biotransformed to thiocyanate quickly. People may also be exposed to thiocyanate from dietary, industrial, and medical sources. The plasma concentration of thiocyanate has also been used as an index of long-term exposure to cigarette smoke (Liu and Yun 1993). Some authors have determined thiocyanate in body fluids as a measure of cyanide exposure, while others measure cyanide concentrations in body fluids as a measure of cyanide exposure. [Pg.197]

The temperature index is the maximum temperature that causes a 50% decay of the studied characteristics in the very long term. It is derived from long-term oven-ageing test runs. The UL Temperature Index depends on ... [Pg.102]
