Long-term constancy

This difficult question has long plagued philosophers and psychologists. I am intrigued by the Buddhist view that asks you to search your experience to find the basic, permanent parts of it that constitute the essence of your ego. When you do this, you find it hard to identify anything as being, finally, you. You may discern certain long-term constancies in your values, connected sets of... 

Again long-term constancy does not automatically mean good short-term constancy. See the results of two experiments in Fig. 11-1 Fig. 11-la shows both good long time and short time constancy. Fig. 11 -1 b shows a measurement with good longterm but poor short-term constancy.

The main features and operating parameters of pumps have been described elsewhere . They are mainly the maximal pressure available, the constancy of flow-rate in the long term or the flow drift, the short-term pressure fluctuations that might interfere with the detector base signal and result in noise, the minimal and maximal flow-rates available, the convenience of operation, the price and the chemical inertness of the parts that come into contact with the solvents.

Corporate compatibility What is the probability that the two organizations will mesh smoothly in terms of (1) culture, for example, both firms place a value on keeping commitments, constancy of purpose, employees valued as long-term assets, and external stakeholders considered important, and (2) business, for example, strategic plans and objectives consistent, commitment to partnership ideas, and wUlingness to change ... 

Create constancy of purpose for continual improvement. Long term planning is also implied in it. 

Such an it1/2 constancy is often termed Cottrell behavior. Deviations from such behavior occur at long times (usually over 100 s) as a result of natural convection... 

Metabohc systems can be analyzed in the same way, as long as we accept the existence of certain external properties that are fixed independently of the system under study. As long as we analyze the flow of metabohtes between constant reservoirs of starting materials and constant sinks into which the final products flow, and as long as we do not try to explain the constancy of these reservoirs and sinks in terms of the properties of the metabolic processes that connect them, then any metabolic system will settle into a steady state with constant concentrations and flow rates at all points. 

The small magnitude and short duration of the compositional variation of the stream in flood stage and the constancy of base flow composition suggest that the water-silicate reactions are rapid. The rapidity with which water equilibrates with the fresh and weathered bedrock was tested in the laboratory (term project of Thomas Dunne and Terrance Smith). Two columns of soil were collected from the side slopes of the watershed. Plexiglass tubes 6 inches inside diameter by 3% feet long were forced into the soil, then dug up. 

The calculated relation is nonlinear in the range 1/a < 1. The magnitude of f /fpj at a 1 compares favorably with the enhancement of the reduced force observed in experiments and conventionally attributed to the term in C2 the origin of which has long been a mystery.
