Guinea pig liver glycogen content was reduced within 2 hours following dermal application of 1 mL of 1,1,2-trichloroethane to a 3.1 cm area of the back (465 mg/cm ) (Kronevi et al. 1977). Hydropic changes in the liver were also found. These effects may not have been compound-related, however, since they were found in animals killed under anesthesia produced by pentobarbital, but not unanesthetized animals. Untreated controls were not used in this study. The authors suggest that these liver effects may be due to an interaction between 1,1,2-trichloroethane and pentobarbital. 

Hepatic Effects. 1,1,2-Trichloroethane had adverse effects on the livers of rats, mice, guinea pigs, and dogs when administered orally or by inhalation. These effects included necrosis, elevated SGPT and SCOT levels, and reduced liver glycogen content (Gehring 1968, Tyson et al. 1983,... 

Other biochemical effects in the liver were observed in newborn rats, receiving Cd orally from day 1 to 45 post partus. The activities of a number of hepatic gluconeogenetic enzymes were enhanced. In addition liver glycogen content was decreased and serum glucose was increased at a daily dose of 0.1 mg/kg body weight. No hepatic Cd concentrations were reported (Merali and Singhal 1980).
