Literature of heterocyclic chemistry

This volume ends with part 7 of the ongoing series on the literature of heterocyclic chemistry, by Professor L. I. Belen kii and Drs. N. D. Kruchkovskaya and V. N. Gramenitskaya, all of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow. It is a sequel to six earlier parts published in Advances in Heterocyclic Chemistry, which started in 1966 in Volume 7 of Advances, and have also appeared in Volumes 25, 44, 55, 71, and 73. The present part covers monographs and reviews published during the three-year period, 1997-1999. 

Dr. D. J. Brown is once again to be applauded and profoundly thanked for another fine contribution to the literature of heterocyclic chemistry. This volume on Quinoxalines brings the field up to the end of 2002 (with some 2003 citations) with a comprehensive compilation and discussion of the 23 years of quinoxaline chemistry that followed our latest volume on this subject by G. W. H. Cheeseman and R. F. Cookson. It should be noted with admiration that many of the books in this series that have come to be regarded as classics in heterocychc chemistry (The Pyrimidines, The Pyrimidines Supplement I, The Pyrimidines Supplement II,... 

The chemistry literature has experienced exponential growth over the last decade or two and the literature of heterocyclic chemistry, like all other areas of chemistry, has experienced an enormous expansion, making it very difficult to keep up with the research reported in this field. Therefore, the review literature has become increasingly important to researchers and teachers who are trying to keep abreast of this field. Hence in this treatise an attempt is made to list all review books, chapters in books and periodical articles published between 1940 and 1982 which deal with heterocyclic chemistry. It is the belief of the Editorial Board that such a policy will assist scholars whose research endeavors take them into the heterocyclic arena.
