For a list of acronyms and abbreviations used in this report, please refer to Appendix 1. 

Group A elements address the general issues of project management and document control and provide a general overview of the project history. The QAPP may be a controlled document, i.e. its distribution is limited, and every issued copy is tracked and accounted for, hence a need for a distribution list. The list of acronyms and abbreviations is also part of Group A elements. 

Although we have assumed readers will have a basic knowledge of earth and environmental sciencejargon, we have included a comprehensive glossary and list of acronyms and abbreviations to assist with the large and perhaps unfamiliar vocabulary. This is followed by a subject index. 

Section 7.2 Acronyms and Abbreviations. Provides an alphabetical list of acronyms and abbreviations, and their meanings. 

Various probes and signals available for surface studies are depicted in Figure 3. Electromagnetic radiation (h v), neutral atom beams (fl), ion beams (i ), magnetic (H) or electric ( ) fields, and thermal excitation W) can be used as probes or quasi-probes. Because of the numerous different types of interactions and resulting signals, the possible combinations of probes and signals are myriad [45-47]. A list of acronyms and abbreviations is provided in the Appendix.
