Liposomes transdermal route

In recent years, much of the research work in the pharmaceutical sciences was focused on the development of effective vehicle systems, such as micelles, microemulsions, and liposomes, for drugs that are critical with respect to bioavailability. Knowledge of this subject is a prerequisite to developing vehicle systems for special administration routes, such as dermal, transdermal, intravenous, and nasal. [Pg.10]

Current research in this area involves numerous new and novel systems, many of which have strong therapeutic potential. In this chapter, we have tried to emphasize the importance of oral routes as well as others, such as ocular, transdermal, intrauterine, and vaginal. The various microencapsulation, nanoencapsulation, and liposome technologies and the release of drugs and bioactive compounds from such products have been described. [Pg.386]

There are several oil-based formulations for the delivery of hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs, which maj orly include emulsions and gels (Figure 58.2).
