LijCOs Lithium carbonate

LijCj, wh crysts. Was first prepd by Guntz Ou heating Li to redness in a vac with carbon or in a current of CO or COa(Ref 2). Moissan (Ref 3) prepd it by heating lithium carbide-ammonia-acetylene. Tucker Moody (Ref 4) prepd it by heating Li carbonate and carbon in three types of elec furnaces to produce the reaction LijCO, + 4C - ... 

The preferred electrolyte is a binary lithium-potasium carbonate consisting of 62 mole% LijCOs and 38 mole% K2CO3, with a liquidus temperature of... 

As a bit more complex model, Li and Balbuena in 2000 investigated Ered of EC and PC (DFT/PCM) [10] by a TD cycle. A potential difference identical to the experimental result referred to Aurbach et al. [35] was obtained. However, the main objective was to investigate an updated two-electron reduction mechanism of EC, following nucleophilic attack from groups at the electrode surface [10]. Here also transition state theory was used to estimate reaction activation barriers, equihbtium constants, and rate constants. The results suggested LijCOs as the favourable product overall, together with lithium diethylene carbonate at high EC concentrations. 

In contrast to DEC/LiC104 solutions, where typical reaction products of carbonate solvents including alkyl carbonates, alkoxides, and LijCO, are formed at the lithium surface, DEC/LiPF solutions yield LiF and Li2 0 only [168].
