In designing modules of mono- or multilamp immersion-type photochemical reactors, again the concept of convergence of light distribution and reactor geometries is followed, and knowledge of light penetration in a suspension of optimal photocatalyst concentration is therefore essential. Optimal thickness of annular irradiated reaction volume is best determined by a spherical probe under conditions where only absorption by the photocatalyst has to be taken into account [12, 78, 98, 99]. The radiant power P = f(r) within the limits of r and rR, respectively, has been simulated by the Monte Carlo method on the basis of... [Pg.279]

The idea of using fluidized bed as both uniform light distribution and an immobilizing support for photocatalysts has been originally proposed and theoretically evaluated by Yue and Khan [3]. Experimental application of this idea has been demonstrated by Dibble and Raupp [4] who designed a bench scale flat plate fluidized bed photoreactor for photocatalytic oxidation of trichloroethylene (TCE). Recently, Lim et al. [5,6] have developed a modified two-dimensional fluidized bed photocatalytic reactor system and determined the effects of various operating variables on decomposition of NO. Fluidized bed photocatalytic reactor systems have several advantages over conventional immobilized or slurry-type photocatalytic reactors [7,8]. The unique reac-... [Pg.327]

When the grey level dynamic range in the image processed is small, usually because of a poor illumination or a non uniform lighting, it s possible to increase this dynamic range by a histogram transformation. This transformation affect the intensity distributions and increase the contrast. [Pg.526]

Heavy cmde oil is widely distributed, and it is difficult to estimate reserves separate from normal cmde oil reserves or from tar sands deposits. Estimates of petroleum reserves frequendy include a large heavy oil component, which can only be produced at significantly higher cost than light oil. [Pg.96]

The (x, i )), values in Eq. (13-37) are minimum-reflux values, i.e., the overhead concentration that would be produced by the column operating at the minimum reflux with an infinite number of stages. When the light key and the heavy key are adjacent in relative volatihty and the specified spht between them is sharp or the relative volatilities of the other components are not close to those of the two keys, only the two keys will distribute at minimum reflux and the Xi D),n values are easily determined. This is often the case and is the only one considered here. Other cases in which some or all of the nonkey components distribute between distillate and bottom products are discussed in detail by Henley and Seader (op. cit.). [Pg.1274]

With respect to selecting measurements, emphasis should include measurements within the equipment such as tower internal temperatures and compositions, internal reac tor conditions, and intermediate exchanger temperatures in multipass exchangers. Trace component compositions provide particular insight into distillation-column performance. Those components that fall between the heavy and light keys and distribute in the products can usually be described by a variety of models and parameter estimates They provide little insight into the column performance. [Pg.2564]

Compare the so-called soft (i.e., widely distributed small sources) and hard (i.e., fewer very large sources) paths for the future provision of energy for light, heat, and power. [Pg.18]
