Ligands supramolecular solid-state architecture

The adducts Mn(S2PBu12)2(bipy) and Mn PBu Cphen) are octahedral and in solid state form supramolecular architectures through n—n interactions between the aromatic heterocyclic ligands.106 Technetium derivatives, important for radiological imaging, such as " TcN(S2PR2)2 (R = Me, Et, Pr, /-Pr), have been described.107... 

Of the transition metals, the nickel triad has been the most studied in terms of xanthate structures, especially nickel xanthates. Thus, binary xanthate structures are known for all elements with no less than 15 binary nickel xanthate structures known and these aggregate in the solid state in six distinct supramolecular architectures. There is also a rich diversity of adducts as well as mixed-ligand complexes, in particular for nickel. 

The ligand (25) (Scheme 22) consists, in the solid state, of discrete molecules without significant intermolecular association. Within each HC(pz)3 unit the orientation of the three pyrazolyl ring is a propeller arrangement. This ligand supports the supramolecular architecture of a silver coordination polymer.258... 

A very promising approach comes from supramolecular chemistry (7). Recent work in this field has demonstrated that information stored in molecular components can be read out by non-covalent interactions to assemble the final architectures using hydrogen-bonding (15-18), metal-ligand (19-21) and cation (22) interactions. A number of described systems contain infinite lattices or exist only in the solid state (23,24). Further development requires to construct novel components which may assemble novel architectures presenting desired properties.
