Over the last thirty years, international collaboration and cooperation on a scale rarely witnessed in science has led to the development of several very sophisticated software packages for ab initio molecular electronic structure calculations. In the early days, such packages were freely distributed amongst workers in the field. Today, you buy executable code, a licence and professional documentation just as with any software package.

The debate within the patteramaking profession on the merits of manual versus CAD pattemmaking is greatly influenced by the patternmaker s preferred professional practice and access to technology. A newly available simulation code for gas-phase kinetics is Kintecus (2014), which is a commercial code, but with a free licence available for academic research or education. Kintecus primarily communicates with the user through an Excel table, although Excel is not required to run Kintecus, since it can be nm from a command line. Kintecus is a chemical modelling software package for the simulation of combustion, nuclear, biological, enzyme, atmospheric and many other... 

COMSOL Multiphysics software was used in all the finite element calculations presented in this chapter with a licence number 1035154.
