Lewis type-1 blood-group antigens

The expression of type-1 Lewis blood-group antigens suggests that for the biosynthesis of some H. pylori LPS molecules there must be glycosyltransferases... [Pg.134]

M.A. Monteiro, K.H. Chan, D.A. Rasko, D.E. Taylor, P.Y. Zheng, B.J. Appelmelk et ai. Simultaneous expression of type 1 and type 2 Lewis blood group antigens by Helicobacter pylori lipopolysaccharides. Molecular mimicry between H. pylori Upopolysaccharides and human gastric epithelial cell surface glycoforms, J. Biol. Chem., 1998,273, 11533-11543. [Pg.2066]

H. pylori P466 was also shown to have the ability to elaborate the cancer-associated sialyl Le antigen in its LPS. The sialyl Le was expressed simultaneously with Le and, in lesser amounts, the Le antigen. These Lewis blood-group termini were connected to the a core OS similar to that of the type strain. [Pg.121]

Lewis Y antigen BC8-F3 Difucosylated tetrasaccharide found on type 2 blood group oligosaccharide SK-LU-3 lung cancer cell line Signet 1 40 HIER... [Pg.424]

The structures of three new disialylfucosyl hexasaccharides, two new nona-saccharides, and a pentasaccharide isolated from human milk have been elucidated. The structures indicate that, in contrast to those of the ABO and Lewis blood-groups, the H determinant is located only on the type-I carbohydrate chain of the branched moiety. Extraction of bovine milk-fat globule membranes with phenol afforded three glycoproteins, which released the T antigen on treatment with alkaline borohydride and desialylation. ... [Pg.317]
