There is an increased risk for bone marrow suppression when levamisole or hydroxyurea are administered witii other antineoplastic dni. There is some evidence that levamisole, taken with fluorouracil, can increase the effects of phenytoin, and that a disulfiram-like reaction can occur if patients taking levamisole drink alcohol. 

The information also notes that a disulfiram-like reaction has been reported with levamisole and alcohol. The general importance of this interaction is uncertain, but bear it in mind when prescribing levamisole. 

This reporter is obviously encountered in the APAAP technique, but it can also be conjugated to biotin and used successfully in the ABC methods. The enzyme is sourced from calf intestine, this form being resistant to the blocking effect of levamisole, which is added to the substrate buffer and blocks all other types of endogenous alkaline phosphatase activity. Several chromogens can be used, the most popular being Fast Red TR salt which yields a bright red alcohol soluble reaction product (34).
