Legionella pneumophilia

Atypical cases of pneumonia may be caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae which may be epidemic, or more rarely Chlamydia pneumoniae or psittaci (psittacosis/ornithosis) Legionella pneumophilia or Coxiella burnetii (Q fever) and a tetracycline or erythromycin/ clarithromycin should be given by mouth. Treatment of ornithosis should continue for 10 days after the fever has settled and in mycoplasma pneumonia and Q fever a total of 3 weeks treatment may be needed to prevent relapse. 

The functions of bacteria are not all beneficial to humans. Their great importance to human health is without question, as they cause various diseases and death. For example, Campylobacter jejuni can cause gastroenteritis, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain. Legionella pneumophilia can lead to legionellosis, fever, headache, and respiratory illness. 

Legionnaires disease, a form of pneumonia caused by the bacillus Legionella pneumophilia, was not known until 1976. The microorganisms, or germs, are found in such unsuspected places as air-conditioning ducts and cooling water towers. They have unique properties, different from those of any other bacterium previously encountered. A perplexing question follows could this be a cross or a mutant Cannot bacteria display the same sort of interactions as viruses And other life-forms ...
