In this section, an overview of the historical development of exposure limits, the legal criteria, and the existing limit values for chemical agents is given. 

In Table 1, the behaviour of 3 different Graveliet types in the two-step leaching test is compared with the limit values. It is clear that all three fulfil the legal criteria for the use as shaped material. It must be noticed, however, that both Mo and SO4 leach more extensively than the suggested reference values which are based on Dutch legislation. Since it is expected, that in the near-future, limit values will also be imposed for Mo, the Mo leaching is under further investigation. 

As can be seen in Table 8.2, a route meeting the SELECT criteria could fulfil all of the 12 principles of green chemistry and vice versa. For example, application of green principles to the design of the synthetic route can help contribute to the second part of the legal criteria, where the use of minimal impact materials (e.g. low volatility solvents) will help meet emissions targets set by local environmental legislation, e.g. the European Union industrial emissions directive. ...

One reason for the resistance to airbags is that the estimated cost to the consumer is an order of magnitude greater than the cost of other safety standards. Current crashworthiness standards, of course, are not as extreme as the hypothetical example, but little in the mandate or primary legal criteria indicates the example is extreme. Apparently, only agency administrative judgment and general political considerations prevent the hypothetical extreme. ...
