Law of the excluded middle

Any fuzzy power set with the subsethood relation is a lattice, in which the standard fuzzy intersection and union play the roles of the meet and the join, respectively. The lattice is distributive and complemented under the standard fuzzy complement. Contrary to the Boolean lattice, which is associated with classical power sets, it does not satisfy the law of the excluded middle and the law of contradiction. Such a lattice is usually called a DeMorgan lattice. 

A general conclusion reached by Black is that dealing with vague propositions requires a logic that does not obey some of the laws of classical logic, notably the law of the excluded middle and the law of contradiction. The same conclusion was arrived at by Bertrand Russell in 1923, as seen from the following quote ...

Remark. To accept the law of contradiction, but reject the law of the excluded middle, the intuitionists had to invent a special negation operator, defined by... 

The operations defined in Section 5.2 of associativity, commutivity and distribu-tivity as well as de Morgan s Laws are also valid. However, in contrast to ordinary sets, the law of the excluded middle does not apply, that is...

Vagueness and precision alike are characteristics which can only belong to a representation, of which language is an example. They have to do with the relation between a representation and that which it represents. Apart from representation, whether cognitive or mechanical, there can be no such thing as vagueness or precision things are what they are, and there is an end of it — The law of excluded middle is true when precise symbols are employed, but it is not true when...

Their woik has culminated in several Laws of Thought , sets of theories supporting concise and systematic approach to logic and later mathematics. One of the most important laws was the Law of Excluded Middle . The law stated that eveiy proposition must be either Trae or False. Eveiy statement is Trae or False, 1 or 0.
