Laser alloying

In addition to many industrial and laboratory techniques developed to apply hydroxyapatite onto metallic substrates, Lusquinos et al. (2002) presented a new approach to bind calcium phosphate solidly to Ti alloy that is related to a well-known technique in the metallurgical field laser surface alloying. The analysis of the results obtained and the description of the phenomena that take place in the coating process has been outlined in this explorative study. [Pg.226]

Key words recycling alloys, amorphous alloys, alloy coatings, laser surfacing, laser alloying. [Pg.234]

One method of alloying is to apply appropriate mixtures of powders on the sample surface, either by spraying the powder mixture suspended in alcohol to form a loosely packed coating, or by coating a slurry suspended in organic binders (Ref 31). The use of metal powders in laser alloying is the least expensive, but, with appropriate process modifications, alloys in the form of rods, wires, ribbons, and sheets can also be added. [Pg.122]

Applications. Laser alloying has been primarily applied to improve corrosion resistance. A very common technique is to alloy steels with... [Pg.122]

Sch] Plates of C45 steel were laser alloyed with CrB2 were studied with Mdssbauer spectroscopy, XRD, SEM/EPMA and microhardness. The surface contains martensite, retained austenite and borides as orthorhombic (Cr27Fc73)3B and undissolved CrB2, not excluding Fc2B. [Pg.424]

Sha] Plates of a iron laser alloyed with CrB2 were studied with SEM/EDX, XRD, Auger analysis and microhardness. Fc2B was found to form in coating. Microhardness of the coating is about 13 GPa. [Pg.424]
