Lapping tools

It is important that diamond pastes have a particle size range, which will also include smaller grains. These result in a variation in size and aiiow the small lapping tool to get on top of the normal grain, without pushing it in front of it (example in Figure 4.70). 

The finish of flange facings varies with the manufacturer. For raised-face or male mating surfaces the finish usually consists of a continuous spiral groove formed by a round-nosed tool or a V tool (serrated finish). Female surfaces are smooth-finished (i.e., without definite tool markings). Other finishes are concentric-grooved, lapped, or mirror (cold-water). The latter two are usually for application without gaskets. 

Production loading tools should be hardened (60 Rockwell C is common). The die should be ground, honed, and lapped or polished to an 8 or 16 rms micro-inch finish. Some claim better results if the final operation involves longitudinal rather than rotary motion...

A software tool for the handheld LAPS set-up can be created by, e.g., the programming language Lab VIEW from National Instruments. The software should provide all necessary measurement steps that are required during a complete measurement cycle ... 

To perform the different tasks, the software should be capable to adjust the bias voltage between the lower limit and the upper limit of the bias voltage, e.g., from -1 up to +1V. Furthermore, the controller which is necessary to operate the LAPS in the CC mode can be flexibly implemented in the software tool. 

Many specialists in SRVs and systems agree that as a practical matter, conventional PHA methods are not always the most effective tools for evaluating pressure relief systems. They also conclude that the pressure relief system design process could be improved. Working closely with a lot of the design firms, I concluded that they merely try to comply with the codes at a minimum cost and care very little about LCC (life cycle cost) of the components. This puts pressure later on the end users maintenance departments usually, these employees have little or no input in the selection of design components whose problems ultimately end up in their laps. In my opinion, it is recommended that, in order to reduce this deficiency rate, the industry should adopt a more equipment-based approach to pressure relief system design and maintenance... 

The rare earth based metal hydrides AB5 have proven to be best suited for use in the negative electrode in NiMH batteries. The market demand for the nickel-metal hydride battery is high because of the rapid demand for portable electronics goods such as video cameras, shavers, power tools, cellular phones, lap-top computers which use high performance batteries. 

The making of this tool is not difficult if care is taken. The most important thing is to get a nice smooth hole at M, which is best reamed and lapped afterwards with some fine emery powder, and then to get the slot J nicely located, so that the edge l is continuous.
